Trip Summary

Whistler VillageWhile the whole world will be focused on Whistler in February 2010, the months before and after the Winter Olympic Games are an ideal time to experience everything magical about Whistler without the crowds and flurry.

During the 2010 season, more than 90 per cent of Whistler Blackcomb's terrain will be accessible to the public. Blackcomb Mountain will be using just one run for Games-related training and only Whistler Mountain's Creekside will be used for the alpine skiing events.

All of the fantastic winter activities for which Whistler is famous are “Business as usual”. From dog sledding and heli-skiing, to snowmobile tours and sleigh rides, everything you've dreamt about in a winter holiday is ready and waiting for you in Whistler.

Winter Village Whistler's prices for the Texas Ski Council are comparable to the 2008/2009 season. The great value you've come to expect from this world-class resort has not changed. High-quality accommodation in January and March is plentiful.

Come for your dream holiday in January before the Games and experience what the world will see in February.

Or come in March, take in some Paralympic training events while you're here and you can share the excitement and get up close and personal with amazing athletes from around the world.

The Plus of Peak 2 Peak

Whistler Peak to PeakWith the launch of the record-setting Peak-2-Peak Gondola linking Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains, a whole new world of possibilities opens up for skiers and snowboarders.

Ski both mountains in one day without ever touching the ground.

The gondola links both peaks and is just an 11 minute ride across the sky. Two cabins have glass floors for a bird's eye view of the stunning Fitzsimmons Valley below.

This is an incredible experience you can only find in Whistler.

What to Expect in 2010

As Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Whistler's spirit and energy has never been more evident. Having finally realized its Olympic dream, Whistler is ready to walk onto the world stage and showcase the incredible and memorable mountain setting that exists within its landscape.

Surrounded by the Coast Mountains and with an average of 33 feet of annual snowfall, Whistler has a well-established alpine culture, and snow sports are firmly embedded in the community's soul.

Three Olympic competition venues will stage a total of 63 exciting medal events, including: alpine skiing, Nordic events, ski jumping, bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton.

Come and explore the completed venues in 2010 and feel the energy and excitement of the Games.

Featuring a snow-blanketed, vibrant pedestrian-only village surrounded by two side-by-side mountains and acres of pristine forest and wilderness, the magic that is Whistler and the pulse and spirit that are the Olympic Games is a winning combination.

Before the Games (January 2010): The Olympic Anticipation

Olympic Ski JumpLeading up to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Whistler will be buzzing with Olympic activity and energy.

All of Whistler's Olympic venues are complete and open for tours, both guided and self-guided.

You can test out the ski venues yourself with a few trial runs down Whistler Mountain's Dave Murray Downhill in Creekside.

Or head out to Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley (15 minutes south of Whistler) and try the 40 kms of expertly groomed cross-country trails.

The majestic ski jumps are incredible to see up close and not to be missed; ride the chairlift to the top and learn about the sport of ski jumping on a guided tour.

The road to Whistler, called the Sea-to-Sky Highway, is scheduled to have all improvements completed by June 2009. Once complete, the highway will be straighter, have more passing lanes and enhanced monitoring for winter weather maintenance.

Travelling the highway is a breathtaking journey of towering mountains, ocean vistas and lush forest; it's guaranteed to be a highlight of your vacation.

After the Olympics (March 2010): The Olympic Legacy

Ski-in, WhistlerOnce the Games have ended, the athletes have left, and the world's focus has shifted to London for 2012, the Olympic spirit, energy and legacy will live on in Whistler.

The Olympic venues will be open and available for tours and sightseeing and will be used to host national and international sporting competitions, training camps and public events.

Visitors will enjoy using the cross-country trails at Whistler Olympic Park or racing down the Dave Murray Downhill at Creekside. The Whistler Sliding Centre, where the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events will be held, will have opportunities to explore the venue and learn about sliding sports.

After the Games, Celebration Plaza will have a huge impact, becoming Whistler's social gathering place, a multi-use public space encompassing an expanded organic-style children's playground, picnic area and water play feature.

There will also be an Olympic Cauldron and volunteer recognition area to commemorate the Games. In addition to watching live musical performances, seeing art exhibits and, ice skating in the winter, visitors can just linger.

Paralympic competitions taking place in Whistler include alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and biathlon; the energy and athleticism of the athletes, coupled with the majestic beauty of the landscape makes these events a must see.

During the first week of March 2010, you can experience the thrill of watching Paralympic alpine skiers training down Whistler Mountain at speeds of more than 100 kilometres per hour while travelling down a vertical drop that ranges from 120 to 800 metres. Their athleticism and commitment is truly inspiring.
